Upcoming Project
Recognising the growing demand for medicinal, ornamental, vegetable, and horticultural plants of Sri Lanka, plans have been drawn to renovate the glasshouse facility at the department of Botany into a modern Plant house facility. The glasshouse was originally established during the tenure of Late Professor S. Kandiah.
A modern Plant house facility will enable the Plant Science students to engage in high-quality research, rather than carrying out laboratory-based experiments alone. In addition, this new facility will help these students gaining hands-on experience in the modern plant breeding & propagation techniques of commercially important crops and their sale as a sustainable source of income for maintaining the new facility.
During a recent visit to the Science faculty by a fellow Alumnus from UK a request has been made to University of Jaffna Alumni Association UK Alumni, by the Dean of Faculty of Science and the Head of Botany Department to fund this project.
